Work Opportunity Tax Credit
The Work Opportunity and Welfare to Work Tax Credit program offers employers a credit against their tax liability for hiring individuals from certain target groups who have traditionally had difficulty obtaining and retaining jobs.
One of the groups is Qualified Ex-Felons, which is any person who has been convicted of a felony under any statute of the United States or any State and who has a hiring date which is not more than one year after the later of the date on which he/she was so convicted or the date released from prison.
Employers may claim up to $2,400 per eligible worker. To learn more go to US Dept of Labor. You can also contact Lisa Jayne, at 433-1017. In May 2004, this bill was made permanent.
